Water is needed in our daily day. Drinking water can keep our energy remain temporarily without eating food. We always encourage to drink 8 glasses per day but is that actually enough?
Dehydration? In a journal 2019 titled "Dehydration Prevention and Diagnosis: A Study in Long-Term Geriatric and Palliative Care", the researcher said that dehydration may occur because of low food and fluid intake or excessive fluid loss. He mentioned that dehydration is divided into two types. It is Dry Dehydration and Wet Dehydration. Dry dehydration is loss water balance while wet dehydration is assessive water balance. To prevent dehydration, human body need to drink 2.5 litres of water. People always confuse that 2.5 litres water is needed but most of them do not know that this quantities are already included in prepared food. It was recommended by food and nutrition board in 1945. So, drink water when you thirsty or you need only. How About Extra Water? A chiropractic physician, Keith Halperin said water is essential for every cell in our body to function properly. Our body is made nearly 60% to 70% of water which is the most. The brain include an amount of 80% water. Keith said, “If you drink too much fluid, thereby it dilutes the body’s sodium level, you may create a condition where electrolytes are out of balance. When we sweat, we lose salt and minerals, as well as water. Drinking beverages containing electrolytes or taking trace mineral supplements will offset the loss of salt and minerals through sweating.” It means too much of water can make us in bad condition so balance them with doing exercise. Because water can be found anywhere and it is good for body, people are encouraged to drink water every day. But, many of us thought that drink a lot of water is healthier. In other article of University Michigan Health System titled Preventing Dehydration for People with Urinary Diversion, Diana Stetson said scientific research proved that drink a lot of water does not make healthy skin, wrinkle free, help in kidney function and feel more energetic. Ways To Know You Drink Enough So, how to know is it enough water or not. The researcher said that urine colour can tell us how much we drank or need. Healthy urine should be light yellow. If it is clear and looks like water, you have drank more that you need. But, if it is dark yellow or orange, you need more water. Because human body are designed beautifully so use them to guide you. Drink 8 Glasses Prevent Weight Gain? Many of us were fooled that 8 glasses a day can make weight loss. But, Diana said a lot of programs give misleading information about water. “Some weight-loss programs tell you to drink 8 glasses of water per day to help you lose weight. While drinking a half litre of water right before you eat may fill the stomach so you become uncomfortable if you eat large portions. There is no evidence that high fluid intake leads to weight loss.” So, get doctor's advices before believing advertisement. Why We Need Water? In the previous article by Keith Halperin, he listed factors that influence water needs. There are such as the factors of environment, Illness and disease, medication, pregnancy and breastfeeding and alcohol. Environment: Hot or humid weather can make you sweat and requires more water intake. Heated indoor air can also cause your skin to lose moisture in winter. Altitudes higher than 8,200 feet may influence water needs. This is because urination and more rapid breathing at these altitudes used up more body fluid. Illness and disease: When you’re sick and your body temperature goes up, you lose more fluid. Fever or vomiting also causes water loss. Diabetes and heart disease also require a larger intake of fluid. Medication: Heart and diabetes medications, antidepressants, allergy and cold remedies, as well as others, require a greater intake of water every day. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Expectant mothers or those that are breastfeeding need more fluid to stay hydrate. The recommendations for women is to drink 2.3 litres daily (10 cups) and for the who women breastfeeding may consume 3.1 litres (about 13 cups) of fluids per day. While staying at home, drink water and use it wisely. Do not skip drink water because our body need them.
